International Coordinating centers have a crucial function in ICUDDR and generally support all key activities and structure. Coordinating Centers have both roles as education providers and curriculum providers/coordinators (UTC/UPC). For these activities, there are coordinating centers partnering with the Colombo Plan in Sri Lanka, the U.S. Department of State, and the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR).  The Centers are responsible for disseminating the UTC and UPC curriculum to universities and other academic institutions for use in developing undergraduate and graduate programs in addiction studies, and authorizing universities to use these curriculums.  The Centers collaborate with a network of universities that are interested in implementing academic programs in addiction studies, and work with the Colombo Plan, the U.S. Department of State, the International Society of Substance Use Professionals‎ (ISSUP), and other international partners to support the ICUDDR, to help evaluate the effectiveness of the UTC curriculum, and to develop a mentorship structure to augment current UTC training approaches.

Coordinating Centres are characterized as Regional Coordinatng Centres. They provide networking activities among their region and support of the local universities and other facilities with respect to the local traditions. We have coordinating centres for these regions: Europe, North America, Latin American and Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Middle East.
